Attendance
Full-time students undertake 3-4 units per semester. Each unit is equivalent to 10 credit points). Students may enrol in fewer units per semester and extend their degree over a longer period. Australian students enrolled in three or more units may be eligible to claim Austudy benefits. International students are required to study a minimum of 30 credit hours (3 subject equivalent) per semester to fulfil Australian study visa requirements.
In order to maximise learning, it is important to engage appropriately in the activities of the program. The School of Business therefore expects students to attend at least 80% of class time unless a reason for absence (such as traffic hold-ups, mechanical breakdown or attendance at family ceremonies) has been accepted by the unit lecturer. Students who are unable to attend classes on a given day should phone the College Reception by 9.00am so that lecturers can be notified. To substantiate reasons for absences of more than two days, students are to provide their course Coordinator/Dean with a medical certificate for that period.
Students are expected to be punctual in their attendance at all College activities.
Attendance rules may vary between Schools and courses. Students have a responsibility to ensure that they are fully aware of the attendance policies which apply to the schools to which their units belong. Overseas students must consult the Overseas Student Handbook.
Workload for the Course
The Bachelor of Business requires 240 credit points for completion. Each credit point indicates an expected student involvement of one hour per week for one semester. A standard unit carrying a weighting of 10 credit points normally involves 10 hours of study and research per week. Fulltime students normally undertake four units per semester with a weighting of 40 credit points and an expectation of 40 hours of work per week over a semester. Part-time students normally undertake one or two units per semester, with an equivalent workload per unit.
Students may apply for transfer of credit from previous studies. Application for transfer of credit is to be made at the time of entry into the course. During their course of study, students may also apply to engage in cross-institutional study towards the requirements of the course (see Section 3.3). A maximum of 50% of the course may be undertaken through transfer of credit and/or cross-institutional study.
The maximum recommended time for completion of the course is 10 years. Extensions beyond this time may be available in special circumstances by application to the Dean of Business.

Course Structure and Content
The course consists of Christian Studies units, core and elective Business units and an Internship/ Project unit.
Christian Studies units (40 credit points)
Foundational to all programs at Christian Heritage College is the disposition and ability to look at life and work from a Christian perspective. The Christian worldview forms the basis for thinking about, and reflecting and acting upon learning in other parts of the program. The result is not a stifling narrowness, but an enrichment and thorough transformation of the whole program. Human wisdom is valuable, but it has its greatest significance when it is exposed to the wisdom of God. Therefore, the course will include the study of Christian worldview in personal and professional life. The Christian Studies units are:
| Christian Studies units (40 credit points) CS100 - Christian Discipleship CS120 - Introduction to the Bible CS200 - Christianity and Worldviews CS300 - Christian Spirituality and Philosophy |
Core Business units (110 credit points)
The core units develop the essential knowledge base, intellectual processes and affective qualities required by a business professional, and include the basic disciplines that a business graduate is expected to have completed. The core Business units are:
Elective Business units (80 credit points)
To allow students the opportunity to develop a major in a specific discipline or pursue non-core areas of interest, the following Elective Business units are available:
Internship/Project unit (10 credit points)
It is essential that higher education students develop a critical understanding of theory and practice in the relevant disciplines as they apply in the context of organisations in the private and public commercial sector. The Internship/Project is a vehicle to assist students in bridging the gap between theory and its application, but within the confines and the scaffolding support of a qualified supervisor. The unit is designed to provide students with the resources and support for developing self-directed learning in a management setting. Students select one of the units below to complete the requirements for the respective major:
| Internship/Project units (10 credit points) BS395 - Management Internship/Project OR BS396 - Marketing Internship/Project OR BS397 - Human Resource Management Internship/Project |
The unit is intended not only to expose students to analytical aspects, but also to engage students in creative problem solving skills that are timely, relevant and culturally acceptable to a specific organisation. Further, students select an area of research that is of potential value in their career development
Majors
The course has a general business emphasis, with majors offered in Management, marketing and Human Resource Management. With the substitution of four units undertaken on a cross-institutional enrolment basis with another higher education provider, as approved by the Dean of the School of Business, the Bachelor of Business is recognised for Associate Membership of the National Institute of Accountants. Details of these units are available from the School of Business.
Management is seen as providing a conceptual paradigm for business activity in that all thought and action are related in some way to the central tasks of managing people and decision-making. Thus, managing and understanding people forms a central integrating theme through each major.
