General Information |
|
There is a lot of information to process when you first enrol to study. This should help you with some of the important details.
ID Card
As a student at CHC, you will be provided with a Student ID Card. This card will show your name, course details and attendance status (full-time or part-time), and will bear the photo that you supplied with your Unit Selection Form. For eligible students, it will also include the Queensland Rail logo, which will entitle you to train travel in Queensland at the student concession rate.
The ID card is needed for borrowing from the CHC Library.
Upon your arrival at CHC, you are able to collect your ID card from the CHC Reception. Please sign the strip on the reverse side of the card as soon as you receive it.
The ID card is valid for the duration of your course. If you lose your card, please complete a ‘Request for Replacement Student ID Card’ form, which is available on the CHC website or from the CHC Reception. A replacement ID card carries a fee of $15, which is to be paid with the submission of the completed form to the CHC Reception.
CHC Library
As a new student to CHC, you will need to familiarise yourself with the CHC Library. Included on this CD is a Library Guide which will give you information regarding the Library and the services it offers to students. You will also be able to attend a Library Orientation session during the first week of the semester.
Please ensure that you read the Library Guide so that you are able to use it effectively during your time at CHC.
Campus
The CHC campus is located on the property of Citipointe Church Brisbane. This is a large property which also houses the Citipointe Church, the Citipointe Childcare Centre, the Christian Outreach Centre Ministry Support Centre, and Christian Outreach College Brisbane. On any day of the week there can be over 1500 people on the property, so it pays to know where you are and where you need to be.
Student Handbook
Your Student Handbook is one of the most important publications that you will receive during your time at CHC. It includes lots of information about your rights and responsibilities as a student, as well as information about policies and processes which apply to things such as your enrolment, financial matters, academic issues and course details.
Each CHC School has its own Student Handbook. Some of the information in the School handbooks is the same for each School, as it applies to all students at CHC, while other information is School-specific, such as course details and Graduation requirements. Please ensure that you read your Student Handbook very carefully - if you have any questions about your enrolment, such as how to change your course or your unit selection in a particular semester, or how to apply for a deferral of your studies, or any questions about financial matters or course requirements, your Student Handbook should always be the first place you look for the answers. It also tells you which staff member to approach in the event that you need to speak to someone about a question or issue you might have.

Policies
CHC has developed many policies which guide its practice in many aspects of its operation, such as business practices, academic issues, administration and student matters, to name a few.
Policies which have relevance for CHC students are published on the CHC website and are available for you to view or download for your information. Your Student Handbook will refer to many of these policies, and will generally provide a short descriptive statement about the policy concerned before directing you to the full statement on the CHC website should you wish to view it.
Go to the Policies section of the CHC website.
You should be aware that, while most of the policies which relate to students apply equally across the various CHC Schools, there are some which differ in the way that they are applied to students. Most of the units you will undertake in your course will be offered by the same School, and so they will all be subject to the same policies; however, depending upon your course there may be times when you undertake a unit which is offered by a different School, in which event you will be subject to the policies of that School. Examples of policies which are applied differently in different Schools are the Attendance policy and the Extensions policy. For this reason, you should ensure that you consult your Student Handbook to find out what the policies are for your School.
