The Bachelor of Education (Primary) provides initial teacher education for people who wish to work in primary school (Years P-6) classroom settings. The Bachelor of Education (Primary) contains four strands: Christian Studies, Education Studies, Discipline Studies (including Discipline Content and Curriculum and Pedagogy) and Professional Experience.

The maximum time allowed for the completion of the Bachelor of Education (Primary) is 10 years. Extensions beyond this time may be approved where extenuating circumstances exist.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

English language proficiency requirements apply to all domestic and overseas applicants for whom English is not their first language. The minimum English language proficiency requirements for entry to the Bachelor of Primary Education are as follows:

EXAMINATION Minimum Requirement
IELTS (Academic) 7.5 (at least 8.0 for Listening and Speaking; at least 7.0 for reading and Writing)
ISLPR 4 (in each of the areas of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing)

The ISLPR test will only be accepted if it has been administered by ISLPR Language Services, Mt Gravatt, Queensland.
English test results must be no more than two years old as at the commencement of the course of study.
The English language proficiency requirements as stated above will apply to all domestic and overseas applicants with the exception of those students who are admitted via the following English admission pathway:
Satisfactory completion within the past five years (from Canada [excluding Quebec], New Zealand, Australia, Republic of Ireland, United States or United Kingdom) of senior secondary or accredited higher education sector studies of at least two years (full-time equivalent).

School-based placements

The School-based teaching placements create authentic learning experiences and are integral to shaping teaching practice in primary schools.

The Professional Experience Program (PEP) consists of 115 days of supervised practicum undertaken in a range of schools. Placements are available in the Christian, state and Independent schooling sectors in both urban and regional settings. Students are required to hold a valid Blue Card in order to engage in PEP.

As part of their Discipline Content studies, Bachelor of Education (Primary) students complete a specialisation in English, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics or Science.

FEES

All courses at CHC have study costs that are determined by whether you are a domestic student or an international student, and whether you are in a fee-paying place or Commonwealth supported place.
Different payment options are available, and eligible students can access the Commonwealth government’s HELP scheme to defer the payment of their study costs.
