Master of Education

General Information

The Master of Education is a one-year course (full time equivalent). It is available on a part time basis only.

The course is designed to provide a program of advanced professional development for qualified and experienced teachers and school leaders who want to undertake studies which will assist them to develop Christian perspectives and professional education practices. It emphasises critical reflection upon the role and tasks of the Christian professional teacher, and the mission, philosophy and practices of Christian schooling, and becoming equipped to translate this reflection into practice.

The maximum time allowed for the completion of the Master of Education is eight years. Extensions beyond this time may be approved where extenuating circumstances exist.

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate in Christian Education may articulate into the Master of Education.

Students who are enrolled in the Master of Education may exit with the Graduate Certificate in Christian Education, subject to the completion of course requirements.

Course Accreditations

The Master of Education is:

  • accredited by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) and appears in the list of accredited CHC courses on the National Register of Higher Education Providers.
  • approved for FEE-HELP (personal eligibility requirements apply).

English Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants for whom English is not their first language must provide certified documentary evidence that the language of instruction of their undergraduate degree was English or they have satisfactory results in an acceptable English Language Proficiency examination (see table below). Results are to be no more than two years old as at the commencement of the course of study.

TOEFL (IBT) 90 (at least 16 in Listening, Reading; 21 in Writing; 18 in Speaking)

Course Structure

Students undertake a total of 80 credit points of core units and elective units, where each unit carries a weighting of 10 credit points. Students able to enrol in a maximum of 20 credit points, or two units, per semester.
