Lecturer – Counselling

About Christian Heritage College:

CHC is a pioneering, accredited Institute of Higher Education in Carindale, Brisbane, committed to redefining Christian higher education. Our vision, initiated by Emeritus Professor Brian Millis in 1986, focuses on holistic development, integrating faith and learning across all disciplines.

Contribute to delivering excellence in teaching and learning across Counselling and Human Services Courses.

The role requires upholding and promoting the vision and ethos of CHC, being an active team member and promoter of CHC, and being an example to students.

• Deliver engaging face-to-face and virtual sessions for Counselling and Human Services courses.

• Develop and enhance learning resources for our online platform, fostering active student participation.

• Contribute to curriculum development, infusing biblical perspectives into course content.

• Mentor students and sessional faculty, nurturing academic and professional growth.

• Participate in course reviews to ensure ongoing accreditation and quality improvement.

• Stay abreast of teaching pedagogy and instructional technology advancements.

Essential

• Master’s qualification in counselling or equivalent accreditation, with membership in a relevant professional association (ASWA, PACFA, ACA)

• Minimum of five years (FTE) of post-qualifying experience in counselling, human services, or social work

• Strong credibility in both academic and professional counselling settings.

• Ability to forge meaningful partnerships and networks within counselling contexts.

• Proven organisational and time management skills, essential for effective teaching.

• Experience in university-level teaching or Private Higher Education Provider settings.

Desirable

• Doctoral qualification or higher research degree.

• Track record of scholarly contributions to counselling or related fields.

• Proficiency in Moodle and digital media for enhancing student learning.

• Experience in curriculum design and review.

• Mental health training.

Staff Development

All employees are required to participate in staff training and development activities to assist in the
achievement of individual/work objectives.

Personal Qualities

• Adherence to the Christian faith and evidence of mature Christian character.

• Sympathy with the INC Statement of Faith and Pentecostal/Charismatic Christianity.

• Commitment to the values articulated in the CHC mission statement.

• Commitment to active involvement in a local church.

• Interest in and care for students.

• Initiative-taking mindset, with the ability to work independently.

• Strong interpersonal skills for fostering a supportive learning environment.
