Julie Nixon
I am a counsellor in private practice, having moved from Sydney to Brisbane in 2019. In Sydney, I was a full-time academic, as well as managing a small counselling practice.
My undergrad is in Primary Teaching to which I have added Certificates in Counselling, Couple Counselling and Art Therapy as well as a Masters and a PhD in counselling where I researched the impact of trauma on serving missionaries. I have extensive industry experience having worked with children, adolescents, adults, and couples in private practice. I have also worked as a school counsellor and in agencies. I love to work with expressive therapies, and am psychodynamically and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy trained. Currently, I serve on the National Council of the Christian Counsellor’s Association of Australia where I hold the Ethics and Training chairs. I am also on the PACFA Professional Conduct Panel.
I have 5 grandchildren all under the age of 10. That means I love to play with LEGO and hang out in parks and anywhere near water. Over the years I have served in many church-based ministries, however, I have a particular interest in mission, especially involving trafficked children and child soldiers.
Personal Testimony:
Jesus invited me to follow Him when I was 16. I have had the privilege of serving in all kinds of church based ministries over the years and more recently have been involved in trafficking and child soldier work in Asia.
