Thomas Edwards

Lecturer, School of Behavioural Sciences

Tom is the Counselling and Human Services Program Lead.  He came to faith as a young man while studying a Bachelor of Science.  In recognising the beauty of creation he first studied developmental genetics before doing a PhD in behavioural neuroscience.  Tom has since shifted his academic interests from the brain to the mind. He is particularly interested in understanding the bio-psycho-social model which underpins both human functioning and counselling practice.  His particular scholarly focus being a small cluster of biologically relevant, and cross-cultural, virtues.

Tom has published in high impact factor journals and spoken at a number of international conferences. He and a colleague have also had the unique distinction of having their virtue-focused work favourably mentioned in the Commonwealth Parliament. Tom has also been a panel guest on ABC RN’s God Forbid discussing the virtue of forgiveness.

One of Tom’s passions is high quality teaching. By imparting knowledge, skills, and a little wisdom, a teacher can influence lives well beyond the classroom. His teaching breadth covers many aspects of the psychology/counselling curriculum and has received recognition from students, peers, and academic leaders alike.
