Course Details Bachelor of Education (Secondary)

This Bachelor of Education (Secondary) provides initial teacher education for people who wish to work in secondary school (Years 7-12) classroom settings. The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) contains four strands: Christian Studies, Education Studies, Discipline Studies (including Discipline Content and Curriculum and Pedagogy) and Professional Experiences.

The maximum time allowed for the completion of the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is 10 years. Extensions beyond this time may be approved where extenuating circumstances exist.

Recent Secondary Education

Applicants who have completed secondary education in the last two years and who are aged 17 years or over, are eligible for admission to this course.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) study

Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study of at least a completed Certificate III (with a GPA of at least 4.0, where applicable) and who are aged 17 years or over, are eligible for admission to this course.

Higher Education study

Applicants with completed higher education study, and applicants with higher education study of at least one semester (full-time equivalent) who wish to transfer to or within CHC, are eligible for admission to this course.

Work and life experience

Applicants with work and life experience who demonstrate readiness for higher education, including successful completion of the Special Tertiary Admission Test (STAT), are eligible for admission to this course.

English language proficiency

English language proficiency requirements apply to all domestic and overseas applicants for whom English is not their first language.

The minimum English language proficiency requirements for entry to the Bachelor of Primary Education are as follows:

Examination Minimum Requirements:

IELTS (Academic) 7.5 (at least 8.0 for Listening and Speaking; at least 7.0 for reading and Writing)

ISLPR 4 (in each of the areas of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing)


The ISLPR test will only be accepted if it has been administered by ISLPR Language Services, Mt Gravatt, Queensland.

English test results must be no more than two years old as at the commencement of the course of study. The English language proficiency requirements as stated above will apply to all domestic and overseas applicants with the exception of those students who are admitted via the following English admission pathway:
Satisfactory completion (from Canada [excluding Quebec], New Zealand, Australia, Republic of Ireland, United States or United Kingdom) of senior secondary or accredited higher education sector studies of at least two years (full-time equivalent).

What to expect

School-based teaching placements create authentic learning experiences and are integral to shaping teaching practice.

The Professional Experience Program (PEP) consists of 85 days of supervised practicum undertaken in a range of schools. Placements are available in the Christian, state and Independent schooling sectors in both urban and regional settings. Students are required to hold a valid Blue Card in order to engage in PEP.

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) consists of 4 teaching and learning strands:

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) consists of 4 strands: Christian Studies, Education Studies, Discipline Studies (including Discipline Content, and Curriculum and Pedagogy) and Professional Experience. As part of their Discipline Content studies, Bachelor of Education (Secondary) students complete 6 units in each of 2 teaching areas.
